School Aims

Oberon High School aims to provide all students with experiences which will:

Academic:

  • Be relevant to them now and in the future

  • Lead to the development of skills in:

  • Literacy and oracy so students can read, spell, write and communicate.

  • Numeracy so students can use mathematical skills to solve problems.

  • Research and investigation so students can discover information by experiment and the use of resources.

  • Reasoning so students can make informed decisions.

  • Self discipline so students can recognise their own responsibility for study.

Personal Self-Esteem:

  • Enhance a positive attitude, self-image and self esteem.

  • Enhance individuality.

  • Enable each student to strive to achieve to the best of his/her ability.

Development of Social Skills:

  • Enable students to develop values on which to structure their lives.

  • Develop a tolerance and respect for other people and different points of view

  • Provide an awareness of social and community issues.

  • Enhance self-discipline

  • Allow understanding and acceptance of the need for rules/laws.

  • Develop the ability to relate socially with the community and their peers.

  • Develop knowledge of themselves and responsibilities towards others.

Beyond School:

  • Prepare students for the transition from school to the workforce and/or further education

  • Enable students to deal with the problems of everyday living.

Resources:

  • Enable students to effectively use the resources available to the school, both human and material.

Leisure / Culture:

    • Develop a wide range of academic and sporting interests

    • Encourage participation in leisure activities catering for individual differences.

    • Increase appreciation of the visual and performing arts.
